Improved child safety and a reduction in traffic congestion
are the driving forces behind the Government’s
determination to reduce “school run” car journeys.
To
support the initiative, Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL)
-
Britain’s biggest bus manufacturer - has developed
a full
range of low floor, fuel efficient school buses.
With
overall lengths ranging from 8.9m to 12.5m, and a
vast choice of optional interior layouts, the Enviro200Dart
and Enviro300 school buses are purpose-built to provide
fully accessible, safe and DDA compliant transport for
up
to 60 seat belted children.
They are buses that bring
benefits for local authorities,
operators, schools and pupils, offering unrivalled fuel
consumption, running costs, safety and access advantages.
The
ADL range is highly adaptable and can be used in a
multitude of ways, including fare paying in-service
operations between peak school times.
Purchasing is also
made easy thanks to a wide range of
finance and rental options suitable for every requirement,
whether short or long term contracts |

 |
A choice of overall lengths
from 8.9m to 12.5m means
that there’s room for
between 29 and 60 seated
passengers. Wide gang-ways and legroom to spare for even
the tallest
of children, and seats are
fitted with M3 inertia reel
seatbelts. |
 |
|

Once aboard, there’s no step between
the low entrance and
the wide, spacious interiors, with only minimal steps toward
the very rear of the bus. Wheelchair passengers haven’t
been
forgotten either, with wheelchair positions easily accessible
via
a manual ,or powered ramp.

A happy driver is a safe driver, and
Alexander Dennis school buses excel here
as well. Across the range there’s a fully
adjustable seat and steering column,
excellent all-round visibility through a large
non-reflective windscreen and mirrors. All
controls and instruments are ergonomically
laid out with a ‘soft touch’ switch panel plus
a Vehicle Information Centre showing
software and running data on a large clear
-view screen. A combination that helps the
driver to concentrate on the road, meaning a
smoother and safer ride for every passenger. |
 |
|
 |
Official statistics prove that buses
are the safest form of school travel.
ADL school buses are designed to be attractive and safe
- encouraging parents and pupils alike to take the safer
option and use the bus.
With their low and wide step-free
entrances, ADL school buses lead the way in safety,
enabling young children to avoid the dangers they
often encounter in other vehicles, such as steep
and winding entrance steps. |

|
 |
Operational versatility allowing
operators to work their buses in a
variety of roles is a major feature of Alexander Dennis
school buses.
Thanks to modern and flexible UK design and manufacturing
facilities,
interiors can be tailored at the factory to the customer’s
precise requirements.
Alternative seating layouts include 3+2 and 2+2 seats
with or without
wheelchair positions. An increasingly popular option
is track-mounted
seating that can be removed to create space for multiple
wheelchairs
- up to 6 wheelchairs can be accommodated in the forward
saloon. |
|
|
 |
Alexander Dennis school buses are based on fully specified
single deck city buses.
They’re designed to give years of service in intensive
operation and use only
top quality premium components such as Euro4 compliant Cummins
engines,
retarder equipped Allison or Voith transmissions, full air
suspension and all-round
disc brakes. Combined with a modern high strength, corrosion
free, rigid
aluminium body structure, this is a combination that weighs
up to 2 tonnes less
than competitors, yet gives away nothing in terms of strength
and durability
compared to these lower specified vehicles.
This weight advantage translates directly into better
fuel economy - fuel saved
by not having to move excess weight - up to 25 to 30% fuel
cost saving on the
12m & 12.5m buses.
There’s advanced Multiplex wiring
systems too, meaning better electrical reliabilityand rapid
diagnosis should any faults occur.
