Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., a leader in bus and coach mobility solutions, today announced that it has delivered two Enviro100EV battery-electric small buses to the States of Guernsey as part of a multi-year framework contract.

The Enviro100EV were bought following the successful earlier trial of a similar vehicle on the Channel Island and a procurement process in which Alexander Dennis’s offer scored highest for customer experience, island operation and battery range & efficiency.

Operation of the island’s first two electric buses will give the States of Guernsey an opportunity to better understand their suitability to roads and infrastructure as part of a planned gradual replacement of the island’s bus fleet.

Dubbed the “big small bus” by the manufacturer, the Enviro100EV accommodates 25 seats and up to 45 passengers in total in a compact vehicle just 8.5m long and 2.35m wide, making it ideal for Guernsey’s narrow roads. Part of the next-generation of Alexander Dennis electric buses, the Enviro100EV offers the same longevity, comfort and efficiency as bigger buses.

Powered by the Driventic Vehicle Electrical Drive System (VEDS), 354kWh batteries give the Enviro100EV substantial operating range on a single charge, allowing it to be used flexibly across the entire Guernsey bus network.

Deputy Adrian Gabriel, President of the States of Guernsey’s Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure, said: “Greenhouse gas emissions from road transport have gradually reduced over time, but on island transport is still the largest contributor of emissions. Introducing two electric buses will not only enable us to reduce Guernsey’s emissions, but it will also reduce ongoing operating and maintenance costs.”

Shaun Millar, National Account Manager for Alexander Dennis, added: “We’re delighted that our Enviro100EV has been chosen for Guernsey’s first electric buses. The size and manoeuvrability of ‘big small bus’ make it ideal for the island’s roads while offering passengers the comfort of a much larger vehicle.

“We look forward to supporting the ongoing operation with insights from our comprehensive AD Connect telematics to help maximise efficiency and lay the foundation for further electrification of Guernsey’s bus fleet.”

Owned by the States of Guernsey, the buses are operated by the government’s partner Stagecoach, which took over the contracted running of the island’s bus services in 2025.
