Alexander Dennis Limited (“ADL”), a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc. (“NFI”), one of the world’s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today announced that it has handed over the fourth Enviro200 in just 18 months to Delaine Buses of Bourne, Lincolnshire, as the lightweight single decker continues to deliver excellent fuel economy for the family-owned and run operator.
After many years of buying heavier single deckers from other marques, Delaine Buses switched to ADL in 2020 and the company hasn’t looked back since. Achieving 11.5 miles per gallon, the Enviro200’s fuel economy is delivering real savings for the operator not just at current fuel prices, and this performance is backed up by the manufacturer’s aftermarket support.
Managing Director Anthony Delaine-Smith says: “The positive experience with our first three Enviro200 buses made it an easy choice to return to ADL for another vehicle of the type. We are seeing fuel consumption between 12% and 18% lower than other single deckers in our fleet, and reliability has been excellent with brilliant support from the team at ADL where needed. We look forward to the ongoing operating cost savings from this bus and to continuing to build our ADL fleet.”
Martin Dunleavy, ADL Sales Account Manager for the East of England, says: “Delaine Buses’ example clearly shows the benefits of the lightweight Enviro200, which by design is extremely fuel-efficient to keep operating costs in check. It’s again been great to do business with Anthony and the Delaine-Smith family and we look forward to continuing to support them.”
Delaine Buses has a history spanning over a century and is managed today by the fifth and sixth generations of the Delaine-Smith family. Its services connect its Lincolnshire hometown of Bourne with two routes to Peterborough, while a third service links the Lincolnshire Market Towns of Stamford and Spalding on routes first established when the company’s first motor bus was introduced in 1919.
Delaine Buses’ Enviro200 buses are built to order to the operator’s specification including wood veneer panelling, a classic bespoke red tartan moquette for the 43 passenger seats and are finished in the company’s iconic two-tone blue livery with cream relief.
