Alexander Dennis offer various Modern Apprentice opportunities across the organisation.
An example of the apprenticeship schemes we offer are a Modern Apprentice (MA) in either Automotive Engineering or Electrical Automotive Engineering across our UK manufacturing sites: Falkirk, Scarborough and Guilford. The successful applicant would be enrolled in a 4 year training plan, resulting in achieving a National Certificate (NC), a Higher National Certificate (HNC) and a level 3 vocational qualification (VQ) in the chosen discipline. The NC and HNC would be gained through attending a local College, day release, while the VQ is measured against work based learning, experience which is gained through helping and assisting build the UK’s most popular buses and coaches with lots of hands-on practical training.
Some of the Modern Apprentices have chosen to progress and have completed relevant qualifications in their field at HND or even degree level.
The current Modern Apprentices programme has been in operation for over 10 years, and as a growing company Alexander Dennis has demonstrated a firm commitment to the development of apprentices. They have an opportunity at Alexander Dennis to achieve their capabilities and develop skills, we can proudly say that we have an excellent retention rate with our apprentices stay and many develop further within our company after the apprentice period. Billy Hislop applied for the Leadership Development Programme to develop his skills in leadership. “Returning positive results is a key part of my role as a Procurement Manager; however I am learning that there are other attributes required. I am using this programme to actively stretch and challenge myself – this will hopefully have a positive impact on my team and their development, which will in turn benefit Alexander Dennis as a whole.”
Andy Edwards, Manufacturing Engineering Manager for the Plaxton site is responsible for directing and coordinating all manufacturing engineering activities. He applied to be part of the programme after his recent promotion: “the programme looked like a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop new leadership skills, enabling me to make a positive and tangible difference within the organisation.”
