Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., one of the world’s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today announced that its customer Delaine Buses has placed a third Enviro400 double decker into service.

The new Enviro400 is the ninth consecutive new Alexander Dennis bus for the respected family business. Continuing the operator’s tradition of placing new buses into service on the first day of a new registration period, it entered service on 1st March.

It follows six Alexander Dennis Enviro200 single deckers between September 2020 and March 2023 and two similar Enviro400 double deck buses introduced on 1st September of both 2023 and 2024. A fourth Enviro400 is on order.

The Delaine Enviro400 are built to a length of 10.5m, styled with the manufacturer’s ‘City’ body design and finished to the operator’s iconic specification including a two-tone blue livery with cream relief, wood veneer panelling and a classic bespoke red tartan moquette for the 77 passenger seats.

“The Enviro400 and Enviro200 … are dependable, easy to maintain and operate, and popular with our drivers and customers.”

Managing Director Anthony Delaine-Smith said: “The Enviro400 and Enviro200 have proven to be great choices for us, allowing us to standardise on modern vehicles that we can customise to meet our fleet requirements. They are dependable, easy to maintain and operate, and popular with our drivers and customers.”

Martin Dunleavy, Regional Sales Manager for Alexander Dennis, added: “It is an honour to be chosen to supply buses to one of the most recognisable independent operators in the country, and to tailor them to respect and continue the Delaine heritage. We highly value and appreciate the business and look forward to continuing to work with Anthony and the Delaine-Smith family.”

Delaine Buses has a history spanning over a century and is managed today by the fifth and sixth generations of the Delaine-Smith family. Its core services on routes first established when the company’s first motor bus was introduced in 1919 connect its Lincolnshire hometown of Bourne with two routes to Peterborough, one via Market Deeping and the other via Stamford, while a third service links the Lincolnshire Market Towns of Stamford, Market Deeping and Spalding.
