Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., one of the world’s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today announced that CLP Power Hong Kong has launched the first of four next-generation Enviro500EV zero-emission double deck buses.

The utility company operates a small fleet of buses to provide transport services for employees commuting to and from its power stations. Four next-generation electric Enviro500EV replace CLP’s existing fleet of Euro IV diesel-powered Alexander Dennis Enviro500, supporting Hong Kong Government’s goal to achieve zero vehicular emissions and carbon neutrality before 2050.

CLP is the third Hong Kong bus company to operate the next-generation Enviro500EV. The white electric buses are decorated with green leaves and a “Pure Electric, Zero Emission” logo. They use LED lighting, and all passenger seats are equipped with seatbelt fastening detectors.

The integral battery-electric double decker utilises the heavy-duty variant of the efficient Voith Electrical Drive System, suitable for the duty cycles and topographical challenges of Hong Kong. It combines this with 472kWh batteries whose clever packaging allows them to be fitted smartly within the bus, avoiding intrusion into the passenger space to increase room for passengers and deliver a conventional saloon seating layout.

Michael Pothan, Head of Commercial Finance (Asia Pacific) for Alexander Dennis, attended the launch and said: “This latest delivery of Alexander Dennis Enviro500EV confirms our next-generation double decker as a favourite for Hong Kong’s operating conditions, and introduces it to the private bus sector for the first time. CLP Power will benefit from its uncompromising design which is driving value through its focus on efficiency and longevity, while staff will enjoy smooth journeys to and from work.”
