Prentice en route to further growth as bus services continue to expand

Published: 26 Apr 2017

Prentice Coaches, the multi-award winning operator based in Haddington, near Edinburgh, has added to its 20-strong fleet with the addition of a new Enviro200 from Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL).

The new 10.8m 39-seat Euro6 model joins a line-up of public service vehicles formed entirely of ADL products and has gone straight into operation on East Lothian Route 108, which runs between Haddington and Fort Kinnaird. It is powered by a Cummins ISBe four-cylinder, 185bhp engine with a ZF Lite gearbox.

Prentice Coaches is associated with virtually every recognition available in the UK transport sector, having in recent years won the Operator Excellence Award; been named as Medium-Sized Coach Operator of the Year; Small Fleet Coach Operator of the Year; Top Independent Bus Operator and featured in the roll of honour at the UK Bus Operator Awards in 2016.

Established 26 years ago, Prentice is long-established in Edinburgh and the Lothians as a leading provider of coach hire for day tours, educational outings, weddings and corporate work – but is now also a significant player in the provision of bus services in East Lothian and Edinburgh.

Ross Prentice, Managing Director of the company, commented: “The bus side of our company is growing nicely with services reaching out from Haddington to areas as far afield as Tranent, Whitecraig, Wallyford, Musselburgh, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and the new route to Fort Kinnaird Retail Park.

“Just like the coach sector, the key to success in terms of providing local bus services is friendly drivers, stylish, comfortable, reliable vehicles that are fuel efficient, perform well and are easily maintained. The Enviro200 meets all of these criteria, hence the reason it dominates our bus fleet.”
