“Your numbers up” isn’t an expression many salesman would want to hear – but for Charlie Miller of Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) it represents the ultimate compliment from customer Sandra Whitelaw.
Charlie, nicknamed “Chico” was over the moon when he arrived at Lanarkshire based Whitelaw’s Coaches to discover the first of 10 new Enviro200s had actually been registered CH17 COO.
Sandra, Whitelaw’s Managing Director, explained: “We have made significant strides in recent years to revitalise our bus fleet by introducing low carbon certified, high specification vehicles and Charlie has played a vital role in that process. I thought it was only fitting to recognise his contribution and, frankly, I couldn’t think of a better way than putting his nickname on one of the registration plates. Most of the buses that have entered service since November 2015 have plates that are relevant to the Whitelaw family and now thousands of passengers across North and South Lanarkshire will be asking ‘who’s Chico?’
“All joking aside however, we have been delighted with the support we have had from Charlie and the whole team at ADL. This latest batch of 10 Euro 6 Enviro200s, which will be delivered progressively throughout the year, means that by the end of 2017 all of our service routes across Lanarkshire will be based on modern, stylish, low carbon certified ADL Enviro200s.”
Sandra added: “Bus passengers today have raised expectations and if we are to continue attracting people out of cars and onto public transport then we need to compete in terms of attractiveness, quality and reliability. All of our new vehicles have e-leather high-back Practico seats with safety belts, sophisticated 10-camera Synetics CCTV systems and T1600 recorders, plus wood effect flooring and Mobitec LED destination equipment.

The first two of the 10 new Enviro200 MMC models ordered by Whitelaw’s for delivery in 2017 are now in service. A further two will be delivered by the end of March to be in service from April, followed by four in September and the last of the batch in October/November 2017. All of the vehicles are 10.8m 41-seat Euro6 MMC models powered by Cummins ISBe 180PS four-cylinder engines with Voith D824.6 gearboxes.
