The latest vehicle to augment the fast-growing fleet of 40 is an Alexander Dennis Enviro200 midi bus. It is an 8.9m 29-seater that went straight into operation on the Whitchurch 205 Town Service, a route won recently by the company.
The largest coach operator in Shropshire, Lakeside Coaches won the coveted title of UK Medium-sized Coach Operator of the Year in 2016 and continues to enhance its product portfolio of private hires, excursions, holidays and local bus services.
The introduction of the new Enviro200, powered by a Cummins ISBe 140 PS engine coupled with an Allison S2100 gearbox, will see investment by Lakeside Coaches in fleet additions and new facilities soar to well over £1million this year.
Company Director Neal Hall said: “We now have extensive town centre bus routes in Ellesmere, Wem and Whitechurch, and others operating regularly between Shrewsbury and Ellesmere, so it is important that we maintain our reputation for quality vehicles and outstanding service.
“The new Whitchurch 205 circular route will operate 11 hours per day, six days per week, so the Enviro200 is the ideal vehicle. It is stylish, a favourite with both drivers and customers, performs well consistently and has superb manoeuvrability, which is vital on this route.”
Asked about the company’s current investment programme, Neal commented: “We have a continuous improvement programme throughout the business. This focuses on products, people and facilities. For instance, in addition to our recent vehicle acquisitions we have secured adjoining buildings and land at our Ellesmere headquarters in Shropshire and are now busy modernising and extending these to give us more workshop capacity and extra parking space.”
