Leopard joins Safeguard fleet as weather kicks up a storm

Published: 07 Mar 2018

Despite the best efforts of “the beast from the east” to bring Britain’s transport system to a complete standstill many operators managed to keep the big wheels turning throughout the recent storm-hit chaos, including Guildford based Safeguard Coaches, who also took the opportunity to introduce a new Plaxton Leopard to their fleet.

Andrew Halliday, the company’s Managing Director, commented: “The weather certainly did its best to disrupt but despite the snow and icy conditions we managed to keep virtually all of our bus services running.

“Many schools battled on valiantly for a few days before eventually closing their doors, so along with the cancellation of private hires, the coach side of our business gradually ground to a halt. However, we are now back in full swing and have been able to put our new 70-seat Leopard coach on the road."

“This is the third Leopard to join our fleet in the past three years and like its counter-parts it is a 12.8m model, which we find ideal for school work, airport runs, day trips and private hires. It is a workhorse that combines style with performance and complements our fleet perfectly.”

Safeguard’s new Plaxton Leopard is built on a B8R Volvo chassis, powered by a D8K 7.7 litre, 350bhp Euro6, six-cylinder engine with ZF automatic transmission. It has full air suspension, I-start duel battery system, a Thermo King roof-mounted climate control system and a 10-camera CCTV system.

Safeguard Coaches is an award-winning family business established in Guildford, Surrey’s county town, over 94 years ago, and is a previous winner of the coveted Independent Operator of the Year award.

Andrew Halliday said: “Our aim has always been to provide a first-class service and to build on the reputation of a business that has been part of the Surrey transport system for the best part of a century, serving the people, schools and businesses of Guildford, Farnham, Aldershot, Woking, Weybridge, Godalming, Cranleigh and beyond. Our new Plaxton Leopard is part of our continuous investment in modern, state-of- the-art vehicles that underpin a quality service.”
