Stuart’s of Carluke, based in the heart of Lanarkshire, has completed a three-bus deal with Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL).
The first of the vehicles, a superbly finished 10.8m 39-seat Enviro200, is now in operation and will be followed by two similar models later in the year.
For Director Stuart Shevill, who has transformed the business over the past 25 years from a one-man, one-bus company to a thriving family operation with over 60 vehicles, the deal signifies a vote of confidence in the UK’s biggest bus and coach manufacturer, ADL, which employs over 800 people at its Falkirk factory, located 35 miles away.
Stuart commented: “We have an extensive fleet of small, luxury mini buses and large executive coaches and are now keen to strengthen our bus operations, hence our introduction of Enviro200s, which enjoy an enviable reputation in the single deck market.
“They will operate primarily on the 240X Route between Carluke and Glasgow but such is the flexibility of the Enviro200 that they will also be prime candidates to support school and college transportation contracts, airport transfers and local service routes that we provide on behalf of Strathclyde Passenger Transport.”
All three of the new vehicles will be 10.8m models with Cummins ISBe four-cylinder, 180PS stop-start Euro6 engines and Voith gearboxes. The first, now operating on Route 240X, has black leather seats that incorporate pods with mobile phone holders, USB charging points, bell push, reading light and coat hook. It also has LED saloon lighting and three skylight roof windows.
