Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., today announced that its newly-launched next-generation Enviro200EV electric bus has been shortlisted in the Contribution to Sustainable Transport category of the 2026 Scottish Transport Awards.

The announcement comes as Scottish operators prepare to confirm orders for the type with funding from the third round of the Scottish Zero-Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZEB3).

The next-generation Enviro200EV is Alexander Dennis’s new zero-emission single deck bus. It builds on the design philosophy of the Enviro200 low-emission bus family and has been designed as a highly versatile zero-emission bus that meets the specific requirements of bus operation in Scotland and the UK.

The new Enviro200EV offers midi and full-size single deck lengths between 9.9 and 11.7m at a narrow 2.47m width that has been achieved without reducing passenger capacity.

A major engineering feature is the new lightweight structure that brings with it improved stiffness and reduces structural-borne noise. Throughout the design of the bus, all components have been right-sized to offer durability and longevity while keeping weight to a minimum. This results in a bus that’s two tonnes lighter than competitor products and which offers excellent efficiency.

The midibus concept has been retained with 19.5-inch wheels which create more space in the passenger area. Clever design allows for a wide entrance gangway that improves access for all, minimal interior steps, and generous headroom at the rear of the bus allowing tall passengers to stand up straight without their head touching the ceiling.

A maximised wheelbase increases the amount of seating that can be reached without encountering a step. On a 11.7m bus with two bays for wheelchair users, 16 forward-facing seats are available in the low-floor area, and each bay has three tip-ups to give a total of up to 22 step-free seats. A new interior design carries the external design language into the passenger saloon.

The lighter weight means that less energy is required to move the bus. Further reduction of power consumption is expected from the Enviro200EV’s reduced overall dimensions. Up to 50cm shorter, 20cm lower and 8cm narrower than other electric single-deckers in the market, less interior volume needs to be heated or cooled, allowing the Enviro200EV to offer up to 10% efficiency benefit at an equivalent passenger capacity to competing vehicles.

Alexander Dennis President & Managing Director, Paul Davies, said: “Our next-generation Enviro200EV is the culmination of years of cross-functional development from our fantastic engineering, production and procurement teams, who have reimagined Britain’s most popular bus for the zero-emission age.

“The Enviro200EV has been very well received since we first unveiled it to customers and stakeholders in Scotland at a ‘Meet the fleet’ event earlier this year. Its shortlisting for the 2026 Scottish Transport Awards is further recognition of the contribution it can offer for sustainable transport in Scotland and beyond.”

Winners of the 2026 Scottish Transport Awards will be announced on 11th June 2026.
