The award-winning SmartHybrid technology delivers reduced emissions and improved fuel economy on our best-selling Enviro400. The low voltage mild hybrid system recovers kinetic energy during deceleration, and provides assistive torque to the driveline during acceleration.
There is no need to change driving style from conventional diesel buses or the Alexander Dennis SmartPack technology to achieve a reduction in well-to-wheel greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.
The Enviro400 SmartHybrid features smart management of alternator and air compressor, engine stop/start technology and electrically-driven cooling fans, and combines these with a 48V mild hybrid system that recovers kinetic energy during vehicle deceleration, stores it onboard, and uses it to provide a torque assist to the driveline when required during subsequent acceleration.
Supercapacitor energy storage means there is no need for component replacement during the vehicle’s normal operating life, and the mild hybrid architecture means no high voltage training is required for maintenance staff.
