Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., today announced that it has delivered five Enviro200 single-decker buses to Herefordshire independent operator Sargeants Bros.
The buses will be used on local routes, running from the new Sargeants depot in Hereford, which opened on Monday 13th April. Together, the new site and fleet investment cement Sargeants’ commitment to delivering a high-quality and affordable service to its passengers.
The buses each seat 30 in a length of 8.9m, with seatbelts at all fixed seats. They are fitted with real-time passenger information systems along with two scrolling screens, and an induction loop for the hard of hearing, meeting PSVAIR requirements.
They are smartly liveried in Sargeants’ red, a company colour dating back to the founder Charlie Sargeant’s first purchase of a bus in 1928.
Sargeants bought its first Alexander Dennis bus in 2025, a similar Enviro200. It now runs several examples of the same type.
Matt Evans, Managing Director of Sargeants Bros, said: “Alexander Dennis has been our go-to marque since our previous supplier stopped building buses for the UK market.
“We initially chose the Enviro200 because of its suitability for the local country roads, but we’re generally very happy with the Alexander Dennis product, and especially impressed with the fuel figures on the Enviro200. While sales sold the first vehicle, it’s true to say that aftersales have sold the vehicles thereafter, with exceptional aftercare service levels.
“It’s a pleasure to be making this significant investment in the Sargeants fleet, as part of our desire and clear vision to achieve a better local service bus network.”
Sargeants runs a 45-strong fleet of buses on services around Herefordshire and Powys.
Matt Evans bought the business from Michael Sargeant, grandson of its founder, in 2019. The size of the fleet has since quadrupled, with a large network of tender routes and commercial services grown with significant investment in people, vehicles and technology. The operator remains well connected to its heritage: both its Kington depot and the new Hereford depot have historic links to Charlie Sargeant.
Matt Evans also runs his own successful commercial dealership, founded in 2004, which has a reputation in the area as the go-to garage for truck and bus.
Simon Wood, Regional Sales Manager for Alexander Dennis, said: “Congratulations to Matt, Kerrie and the team at Sargeants on their stunning fleet upgrade. It’s always great to see a new customer become a repeat customer, especially a traditional, independent British operator making such impressive strides forward.
“We’re delighted by the success Sargeants has had with Enviro200 buses so far. Thanks so much for investing in Alexander Dennis.”
