Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., one of the world’s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today announced that it has handed over two new Enviro200 low-emission buses to independent operator J&DS Halcrow.
The new buses will be used on the operator’s scheduled services in Shetland, including the key route from the island’s capital Lerwick to Sumburgh Airport at the southern tip of Shetland’s mainland.
Each of the 10.8m long Enviro200 has 40 passenger seats trimmed in Camira moquette, with three-point belts fitted to all fixed Alexander Dennis SmartSeats. Altro wood-effect flooring enhances the appearance of the spacious interior. Mobitec has supplied the passenger information system, which includes the destination displays and two screens for next-stop announcements, one of which is positioned in the wheelchair bay in accordance with regulations on information accessibility.
The Enviro200 are fitted with Alexander Dennis’s SmartPack efficiency technology which combines engine stop/start, e-cooling and auxiliary load management to deliver a 24% well-to-wheel greenhouse gas saving compared with a conventional Euro V equivalent. This has been validated by the Zemo Partnership, with the Enviro200 certified as a low-emission bus (certificate available at https://www.zemo.org.uk/work-with-us/buses-coaches/low-emission-buses/certificates-hub.htm).
“The Enviro200 … gives us a great combination of passenger capacity and manoeuvrability on the island’s roads.”
Partner Jamie Halcrow said: “The Enviro200 has proven itself to be a very capable and efficient performer on our scheduled bus routes across Shetland, so it was an easy decision to return to Alexander Dennis for another two buses which have joined two similar examples of the current model in our fleet and will replace two of our earlier-model Enviro200. It gives us a great combination of passenger capacity and manoeuvrability on the island’s roads.”
Charlie Miller, Retail Sales Director for Alexander Dennis, added: “We’re delighted that Jamie and the whole business at J&DS Halcrow have trusted us again for their bus investment, choosing this pair of versatile Enviro200 single deckers. We appreciate their continued support. It was lovely for their Alexander Dennis contract manager Chris Hampson to host Sheila and Douglas Halcrow at our Scarborough factory for the vehicles’ sign-off.”
