Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., today announced that it has delivered another two Enviro400 double-deckers to Skills Motor Coaches of Nottingham, following eight identical buses supplied last year.
Skills chose Alexander Dennis on the strength of its experience with an Enviro400 it had bought in 2017, which still is a hard-working member of the operator’s fleet.
It initially ordered six of the type in 2025 for private hire and school contracts, redeploying them and increasing last year’s order by another two after winning the contract to operate the Medilink service on behalf of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Skills Managing Director Pete Hallam said: “It’s the quality of the Enviro400 that impressed us, and what it gives our passengers: it’s comfortable, it’s spacious, it looks good, and it provides a pleasant environment. It’s a private hire experience in a service vehicle.
“The buses fit everything we need them to do, including private hire, service work, school contracts and rail replacement. Our drivers love them. There has been no negative feedback whatsoever. The bus does what it says it’s going to do. It does 60mph on the motorway. It ticks every box. Fuel economy is also very good, returning a very strong 7.5mpg on average.
“Maintenance-wise, we’ve had no major issues. The AD24 online platform is very good; all the diagnostic information is on there. When we call out an engineer, they arrive quickly and sort the problem. It’s very good support.”
Simon Wood, Regional Sales Manager for Alexander Dennis, said: “We’re delighted that the Enviro400 is proving to be such a versatile vehicle in the Skills Motor Coaches fleet. With 85 belted seats and meeting PSVAR and PSVAIR requirements, there is nothing that our double-decker shies away from. We’re grateful to Pete Hallam and his team for their repeat business and look forward to continuing to work with them.”
Skills plans to order two more Enviro400 for 2027 and another two for 2028 to continue its investment in its high-capacity fleet.
