Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., today announced that it has supplied independent English operator Taw and Torridge Coaches of Devon with its first brand new double-deck bus, bought to celebrate the operator’s 50th anniversary.
The 11.5m-long Enviro400 is to a bespoke premium specification, with high-backed coach-style leather seats, each with three-point belts. It has wood-effect flooring throughout, as well as stunning under-seat mood lighting. An absence of vertical handpoles completes the luxury interior. It’s also fully PSVAR and PSVAIR compliant.
The bus will be used on school work, rail replacement and private hire. With 85 seats, it’s the highest-capacity vehicle in Taw and Torridge’s 70-strong fleet.
Its purchase comes on the back of happy experience with an Alexander Dennis Enviro200 single-decker delivered in autumn 2025, which was also built with a bespoke premium interior.
Based in Okehampton in North Devon, Taw and Torridge was established in 1976, and today is one of the leading coach operators of the South West. An independent, family-run business, its work is predominantly private hire, with school contracts as well as several bus service routes around North Devon.
Mark Hunt, Managing Director of Taw and Torridge Coaches, said: “Our business has gone from strength to strength in the last five years, with more clients requesting high-capacity vehicles. The Enviro400 fits the bill exactly: it’s a fantastic people mover with great fuel economy, and Alexander Dennis gave us many options for customising its luxury interior.
“Our recent Enviro200 has been a hit with our drivers and customers, so we’re very glad to return to Alexander Dennis for this stunning double-decker. It’s a fitting celebration for our first 50 years in business.”
Mark Taylor, Regional Sales Manager for Alexander Dennis, said: “It’s a real pleasure to deliver this gorgeous bus to the team at Taw and Torridge. Their blue-and-silver livery is among the many popular sights of beautiful Devon, and it looks especially good on the Enviro400.
“Thank you to Mark and the team for choosing Alexander Dennis for this very special 50th anniversary vehicle.”
