Another chapter unfolded today in the remarkable story of Alexander Dennis, the global bus builder that is changing the face of passenger transport in North America.

As the doors opened at the APTA Expo in Houston, Texas – the premier showcase for public transportation – the company took the wraps of a revolutionary new double deck that is lower in height but still retains the interior dimensions of previous models AND can carry 86 seated passengers.

At just 13’6” (4.1m) in height the new-look Enviro500 will operate virtually anywhere in the USA and Canada without requiring over-height permits and provides the gateway to a raft of new opportunities for Alexander Dennis in the USA and Canada.

CEO Colin Robertson believes the new Go-Anywhere Enviro500 represents another significant step for Alexander Dennis in North America.

He commented: “Our proposition has always been that double decks can carry twice as many people as conventional single decks – but have the same footprint and are renowned for their fuel efficiency, maneuverability, durability, reliability and lifetime value, hence the reason we now have 700 of them operating in cities like New York, Washington DC., Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto.

“The new Enviro500 removes any height issues but retains all the features of our previous double decks, enabling operators to maximise ridership and revenue, while still providing a stunning street presence and the unique passenger experience that can only be achieved on a double deck.”

The Go-Anywhere Enviro500 is stylish, lighter, more fuel efficient and with an overall height of just 13’6” (4.1m) can operate virtually anywhere in North America.

It is available with optional interior layouts offering 80-86 seats and brings together a unique combination of high capacity and comfort, ushering in a new era for urban transit or inter-urban operations. Interestingly, while it is lower in height than its fore-runners it actually has more internal space, improving on already outstanding passenger comfort.

Equally at home as a city based transit bus or as a highly specified inter-urban commuter, it remains as maneuverable as ever and has stepped up a gear in terms of reliability, durability, low-cost maintenance and whole life costs.

Designed exclusively for North America, the Go-Anywhere Enviro500 is based on years of double deck operation in the USA and Canada. It brings together the combination of proven engineering and pioneering innovation that has put Alexander Dennis at the forefront of the global bus market.
